my shoes
in a dream
and my feet in them
in awful
brackish water
where i found
indian drums and later
a man tried
to kill me
for them

i woke up
again to rain
already feeling the wet
seeping in
to my bones
wondering
what water means to me
and if it
figures in
my death

why water
why do i
never seem to escape
love and
death within
your cool
green and blue brine
at once
i breathe
then die
